The concept

*Jiejing* (借景) — "borrowed view" — is the classical Chinese garden principle of composing with scenery you do not own: a distant pagoda, a ridge line, a neighbour's plum tree. The whole site is built on that idea. It is a practice that measures a garden for a year before moving a single stone, that works in seasons rather than deadlines, and that turns down any commission designed to look finished in a photograph. The tone is a quarterly journal, not a services page — so the form is an **editorial magazine**: asymmetric spreads with marginalia in the outer column, a drop cap, a full-bleed pull quote from a 1631 treatise. And then the one thing nobody else in the library has: a moon gate.

Typeface: Instrument Serif 400/italic display — a high-contrast serif with narrow, elegant caps that holds up at 214px without looking like a fashion masthead. Its italic carries the pull quote and every marginalia heading. Literata 200/300 for body: a screen-reading serif designed for long text, which the magazine form leans on heavily. Serif on serif is the classic magazine move, and it separates this build completely from the five grotesque-led ones.
Cursor — Moon-gate cursor: - Moon-gate cursor. A ring clipped into two arcs; on hover they part and a vermilion dot appears in the gap — the gate opening. - Petal canvas behind the whole page. Ellipses in three tints (blossom, gold, vermilion) falling, drifting sideways, and *tumbling* — each petal's Y-scale is driven by |cos(angle)| so it foreshortens as it turns. Three depth bands at different parallax rates. Not rising embers, not sideways dust, not sine caustics. - Per-character heading — staggered outward-in entrance, idle sine on Y and Z, scroll offset measured from centre.
